Before You Start
What We Need From You
Tell Us Everything You Take
Prescriptions, supplements, over-the-counter medicines and anything bought online. Interactions are easy to prevent and hard to fix.
Tell Us About Pregnancy Plans
Pregnancy, breastfeeding and planning a pregnancy change what is appropriate. Some GLP-1 medicines need to stop weeks to months before conception, and may affect oral contraception.
Tell Us Your History
Pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, kidney disease, eating disorders, and a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2 all matter.
Common and Usually Manageable
Side Effects You May Notice
GLP-1 and GIP/GLP-1 Medicines
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation and reduced appetite are the most common, and they are usually worst after a dose is started or raised. Tell your care team before changing a dose yourself. Hair shedding has been reported, and its cause has not been established.
Peptides and Other Compounded Medicines
For most peptides there is little or no human safety data, so we cannot tell you what is common. Each treatment page states what has and has not been studied. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved or evaluated for safety, effectiveness or quality.

- Thoughts of harming yourself. Call or text 988
Call 911 or go to an emergency room, and tell them which medications you take. Then let your care team know.
Semaglutide and tirzepatide carry a boxed warning about thyroid C-cell tumors, and they are not used by people with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2. Your clinician asks about this before prescribing.
